Open call for NPE Trainers & Training Centers

The NPE Academy invites expressions of interest from professionals and institutions wishing to become accredited NPE Trainers or NPE Training Centres.

Requirements NPE Trainers

We welcome applications from experienced NPE practitioners who are committed to education, supervision, and the advancement of neonatal cardiovascular care.

The local trainer and/or director of the training programme is required to have:

• Extensive experience in NPE. 
• A period of exposure to neonates with CHD in collaboration with a designated paediatric cardiologist is strongly recommended.
• Designated and established link with a paediatric cardiology team or consultant for CHD care.
• >50 echocardiograms performed/year (functional in nature), maintained in a logbook.
• Local template for reporting NPE exams.
• Regular meetings to discuss cases and review trainee progress.
• Dedicated time allocated to training oversight on a weekly basis.

Accredited trainers will support workplace learning, competency assessment, and quality assurance within the NPE Academy.

Requirements NPE Training Centres

We invite neonatal units and institutions with established NPE practice to join our growing network of accredited training centres.

The requirements for an accredited NPE training centre are: 

• The unit should be performing regular echocardiography (more than 5 scans per week), admit infants <1,500 g, be a centre for therapeutic hypothermia, and provide therapeutic modalities which include high-frequency ventilation and inhaled nitric oxide.
• The NICU should admit infants with suspected or confirmed congenital heart disease (CHD) prior to transfer to paediatric cardiology services. 
• Close collaboration with paediatric cardiology services is essential and should include regular onsite visit of a consultant paediatric cardiologist.
• The unit should be an accredited training site with the national/regional body tasked with neonatology fellowship training.

We welcome applications from institutions and professionals across Europe who share our commitment to education, patient safety, clinical excellence, and collaboration. Together, we can establish a sustainable and internationally recognised framework for NPE training and accreditation.
