Pediatric Research is preparing its Annual Summer Review Issue with the topic, "Emerging areas in neurodevelopmental disabilities". Neurodevelopmental disabilities and disorders are a group of conditions that influence brain function and alter neurological development, leading to difficulties in social, cognitive, and emotional functioning. These disorders typically manifest early in development and can impair personal, academic, social or occupational functioning. Neurodevelopmental disabilities are a wide range of conditions that can impair learning at any age and in degrees ranging from mild to profound disorders. These disabilities include but are not limited to: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Low intellectual functioning, Specific learning disabilities such as dyslexia, Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Conduct disorders, Cerebral palsy, Impairments in vision and hearing. Examples of possible topics for this issue are: Mechanisms of injury, mechanisms of neuroprotection, biomarkers, new interventions for prevention and restoration, new imaging modalities, bilirubin and environmental exposures. This review issue will pull together recent information on all facets of developmental disabilities in pediatrics from bench to bedside and beyond!
This is an excellent opportunity for junior faculty to pair up with senior mentors to develop these reviews! Please note that a faculty member should be corresponding author so that Springer Nature can identify whether there is a possible Open Access option that is no cost to the authors. Otherwise, standard publication page fees are waived for manuscripts included in the Annual Review Issue!
Letters of intent should include a proposed title and be sent to info@pedres.org by the deadline. Please include "ARI 2025 Proposal" in the subject line. If proposal is accepted, initial manuscript drafts will be due February 1st, 2025.
